I was at the gig Drumdawg played. Jimmy sounded good (esp the Guitarist) but I would've been scared to follow Apex.

I can't listen to U2 specifically because I don't like their drummer. I don't hear it groove, and I don't like the sound of his touch. Never have. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of drummers who play (or played) simply that I DO like (Ringo for example), but Larry leaves me cold. That's just my opinion obviously.

I do like him -- I think he fits their music. He might not be a great stand-alone drummer, but for U2, I think he is just right.

In my opinion, of course.

On a sidenote, what's the general opinion here of U2's latest album?
I must admit that I have never really found myself enjoying their music. The major let down for me is that once you've heard one of their songs, you know what they're all about. Is the new album a step in a different direction?

You have a point there. Like many popular bands for me, there seems to be a "heyday" where they "have their collective moment" & then it just kind of wanes. Many bands go through this. Rush did AW, IMO, to name but one.
